Pastor’s Note 06/30/22

So what are you reading this summer?

I hope that you are able to find some time during these hot days of summer to enjoy a good book or two. I am the kind of reader who usually has two or three books going at the same time, some for fun, some for work, some for my soul. Some are on my iPad/Kindle (easier to travel with), some are beside my bed helping me fall asleep, some are in my commuter-bag that I take back and forth to the office.

Here are the books that I am currently reading:

Tempered Resilience: How Leaders are Formed in the Crucible of Change – by Tod Bolsinger

The Good and Beautiful You: Discovering the Person Jesus Created You to Be – by James Bryan Smith

The Color of Compromise: The Truth about the American Church’s Complicity in Racism – by Jemar Tisby

Strengthening the Soul of your Leadership: Seeking God in the Crucible of Ministry – by
Ruth Haley Barton

Welcome to Dunder-Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office – by

Brian Baumgartner and Ben Silverman

How to Pray: Reflections and Essays – by
C. S. Lewis

I suspect that this summer I will finish a few of these books and that I will add a few. Some will continue to be by my beside and others I will sling back and forth to the office.

So, what are you reading? Let me know (you can email me at pastortim@lakesidepc.org)

Have a great rest of the week, celebrate the 4th  of July safely, and I hope to see you on Sunday.

Pastor’s Note 06/24/22

.Summer Prayers

At last Sunday’s worship service, we introduced the LCPC 2022 Summer Prayer card. This is an opportunity for all of us to be praying together, three times a day.

  • In the morning (when you awake), a Prayer of Relinquishment.
  • At mid-day (at 12:12pm so we can all remember), the Lord’s Prayer.
  • In the evening (before you go to sleep), a Prayer of Examen.

Below are the simple prayers that we can pray together:

Morning Prayer
A Prayer of Relinquishment
“Today Lord, I yield myself to you.
May Your will be my delight today.
May You have your perfect sway in me.
May Your love be the pattern for my living.
I surrender to You my hopes, my dreams,

my ambitions.
Do with them what You will,
when You will,

as You will.
I place into Your loving care my family, my friends, my future.
Care for them with the care I can never give.
May You establish Your kingdom through
my words, my hands, my feet, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.”

Mid-Day Prayer at 12:12pm
Our Father
“Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name;
Thy Kingdom come;

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors;
and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory. Amen.”

Evening Prayer

A Prayer of Examen
“O God, we thank You for this day and for meeting our needs.

We give to You our unmet needs and concerns, for we know that You are a good Father.

We give You our thoughts, feelings and actions

of our day.

We remember Your goodness.

May we remember our shortcomings.

We ask for Your forgiveness.

We ask You Lord to take away our worries

and concerns,

trusting in Your provisions for our future.

Thank You God for being with us through-out the night, so we might awaken to Your presence and serve You again as the sun arises.

In Jesus name we pray, Amen.”

You can receive a copy of these prayers at church or they will be posted on our social media pages and on our website. Each of these prayers are a jumping off point for other prayers. It is my hope that we would be praying that God would be moving in our lives and in the lives of people that we know. So, grab a prayer sheet (or two) and place it where you will be reminded to pray.

Thanks for being a part of LCPC family as we pray together.
