Did you see it?
On Super Bowl Sunday, the people from He Gets Us ran two commercials. They weren’t long, the songs were catchy, and the content made you think and ask questions about Jesus.
Now I know some people wondered why millions of dollars were spent on advertisements about Jesus during the Super Bowl. Couldn’t that money have been better spent? The short answer is maybe. The intent of He Gets Us was during a cultural moment, when millions of eyes were watching an event together, wouldn’t this be a good time to talk about Jesus?
From my perspective it was a good investment. The commercials were good, the content was thought provoking and the catch phrase, “He Gets Us” is something that is easy to remember and begs to ask more questions.
I think that I have mentioned that we are a He Gets Us partner church. If people had a question or wanted prayer for a certain situation, through the He Gets Us link, prayer requests are forwarded to us. I will say that this week has been the busiest week for prayer requests since we have signed up. Prayer requests from a variety of different people in East County facing a variety of different situations have been submitted. Some have asked about Jesus and why they should get Him. I (and Silvia in the office has been helping in answering requests too) have enjoyed the limited correspondence that we have had. It is good to pray for people in our community that are facing a variety of situations and are asking for prayer.
Let me ask you to pray about the He Gets Us campaign. Pray for the airing of the commercials, for the people who are asking for prayer and pray for the responses. In fact, if you would like to be a part of the team that responds to the prayer requests let me know and I will tell you how you can be involved.
Thanks for praying. Thanks for being a part of a church that knows the importance of prayer and thanks for being a part of a church that loves Jesus.
Hope to see you on Sunday.

Hopefully you read last week’s eBlast about Jesus being at this year’s Super Bowl this coming Sunday. It is a part of the He Gets Us campaign to see Jesus in a different light, through a different pair of glasses. The above video is one from the He Gets Us ads that are intended to revive interest in the Jesus of the Scriptures. It is intended to help people see Him with a new perspective and not through the tainted lenses that our culture has placed on Jesus.
If you can, go to the He Gets Us website (https://hegetsus.com/en) and learn about the campaign and how you can engage in the conversation about Jesus at your Super Bowl parties. Don’t make it a time of debate but a time of letting others ask questions and for you to listen and to invite. The invitation is for them to check out for themselves who Jesus really is.
If you have questions or want to talk about this or about Jesus, feel free to contact me. I would love to talk, especially about Jesus.
Have a great rest of the week and hope to see you on Sunday.
