“Surely He was the Son of God!”

Matthew 27:54b

There are always stories behind names that we have been given. Sometimes a child is named after a family member or there is a connection to a friend. Sometimes there are endearing nicknames that people give us in the midst of a friendship.

As Jesus was hanging on the cross the centurion makes the comment that “surely He was the Son of God.” What does this name mean and what does it mean for us as followers of Jesus?

Come this Sunday as we look at this name that was given to Jesus.

Have a great rest of the week.

Pastor’s Note 08/01/2024

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God

belongs to such as these.”

(Mark 10:14)

This past weekend I was able to visit my first grandchild, Charlotte, in Texas. It was a family affair as our entire family got to meet her and spend the weekend in Dallas. In seeing sweet Charlotte, (now just over 1-month old), I was reminded on how dependent upon others a baby is to meet her needs.

That dependence is a good comparison of our relationship with God. It is with a child-like dependence that we have with our heavenly Father and Jesus reminds us of that in the Gospel of Mark.

So what does that mean for us? How might we be a part of God’s kingdom when we are child-like in our faith? These are questions to ask ourselves as each of us are on the journey to follow in the steps of Jesus.

Hope to see you this Sunday as we unpack what Jesus’ words mean to us today.
